Manzur H. Maswood PhD Student, Mass Communications University of Wisconsin-Madison
Hi! I’m Manzur Maswood, a former journalist turned academic, currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Mass Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
As a science communication and political communication scholar, my work focuses on anti-establishment orientations such as populism, anti-intellectualism, and the “Do Your Own Research” mindset. Specifically, I examine the mechanisms of supply and demand sides of such beliefs at the intersection of science, politics, and media.
I approach these questions as a quantitative scholar, backed by a Ph.D. minor in Quantitative Methods. I am passionate about leveraging participants-based, data-driven approaches to unpack pressing societal challenges.
My research is supported and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Election Research Center at UW-Madison, and the Kavli Foundation.
Looking ahead, my goal after graduation is to transition into a faculty role where I can continue this line of impactful research and mentor the next generation of scholars.
